Sep 18, 2014 Admittedly, I like to go for Apple’s OS X Combo updates when I can, which for OS X 10.9.5 includes all the files needed to update from any 10.9.x version, including the original 10.9 release. Safari 9.0 ships with Mac OS X 10.11, and version 9.1 is available for 10.9, 10.10, and 10.11 through Software updates for the operating systems combined with the the security update, and the Safari update through the App Store. 10.10.4 for instance can't get Safari 9.1, but Mac OS X 10.9.5 and 10.10.5 can, and it must be installed separately. Apple has released Safari 9 for Mac users running OS X Yosemite and OS X Mavericks. The release adds some of the newer features borrowed from the El Capitan version of the web browser to Safari running on prior releases of Mac OS. Perhaps the most notable feature added in Safari 9 is the ability to mute audio coming out of other tabs open in the Safari web browser, but there are a few other.

Make sure you’re ready to upgrade.

Before you upgrade, we recommend that you back up your Mac. Then, if your Mac is running OS X Mavericks 10.9 or later, you can upgrade directly to macOS Catalina.

Upgrading from macOS Mojave?

Go to Software Update in System Preferences to find the macOS Catalina upgrade. Click Upgrade Now and follow the onscreen instructions to begin your upgrade. If you don’t have broadband access, you can upgrade your Mac at any Apple Store.

Upgrading from an older version of macOS?

If you’re running High Sierra (10.13), Sierra (10.12), or El Capitan (10.11), upgrade to macOS Catalina from the App Store. If you’re running Lion (10.7) or Mountain Lion (10.8), you will need to upgrade to El Capitan (10.11) first. If you don’t have broadband access, you can upgrade your Mac at any Apple Store.
